- Accelerating the Commercialization of Nitric Oxide
Plasma-Activated Water Technology -
PLASAD Co., Ltd., a faculty startup founded by
Professor Choi Eun-Ha (pictured) from Kwangwoon University's Department of
Electrical and Biological Physics and Plasma Bioscience Research Center, has
been selected for the private investment-led technology startup support program
TIPS (Tech Incubator Program for Startups) organized by the Ministry of SMEs
and Startups.
PLASAD Co., Ltd. began
as a faculty startup in August 2022, established a corporate research institute
in January 2023, and obtained venture certification in March of the same year. Notably,
in July 2023, the company received New Excellent Technology (NET) certification
from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs for its technology
utilizing nitric oxide plasma-activated water to promote the growth of
horticultural crops, demonstrating its technological excellence.
With its selection for
the TIPS program, PLASAD Co., Ltd. has secured a total investment of 600
million KRW and plans to accelerate the development of a new hydroponic
cultivation solution utilizing nitric oxide plasma-activated water. Nitric
oxide plasma-activated water is an innovative technology that can suppress
microbial growth and algae formation, which have been noted as challenges in
hydroponic cultivation. This technology helps maintain a cleaner and more
efficient crop cultivation environment. In addition, based on research findings
that this technology can promote plant growth and enhance the production of
functional compounds in plants, it is expected to boost competitiveness in the
agricultural sector by enabling the development of eco-friendly farming methods
that support the entire process, from seed germination to vegetable
cultivation.
Choi Eun-Ha, CEO of
PLASAD Co., Ltd., commented on the TIPS selection, stating, "Nitric oxide
plasma-activated water is a highly versatile technology with potential
applications not only in agriculture but also in various other industries.
Through this investment, we aim to drive innovation in hydroponic cultivation
technology, establish sustainable eco-friendly farming practices, and present a
new paradigm in the agricultural sector."
Meanwhile, PLASAD Co.,
Ltd. plans to continue expanding its growth potential by commercializing nitric
oxide plasma-activated water technology and providing innovative solutions in
both domestic and international markets.
