Professor Joo-Hyung Chae’s Research Team (Department of Electronics & Communications Engineering)
Wins Samsung Electronics Corporate Special Award at the 25th Korea
Semiconductor Design Competition
The research team from the Next-Generation Integrated Circuit and
System Design Laboratory (NICS Design Lab), led by Professor Joo-Hyung Chae
from the Department of Electronic Communication Engineering, with members
Chan-Heum Han (integrated master's and doctoral program) and Ki-Soo Lee
(master's program), received the Samsung Electronics Corporate Special Award at
the 25th Korea Semiconductor Design Competition.
The Korea Semiconductor Design Competition is a specialized
competition in semiconductor design, jointly organized by the Ministry of
Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association. It
aims to cultivate design skills among university and graduate students in
semiconductor design and to discover creative ideas. This year, a total of 20
projects were selected for their excellence in design.
The research team proposed a new encoding method to reduce power
consumption in memory interfaces for high-performance computing systems and
presented the design and verification results. This demonstrated that the idea
can be applied to next-generation memory interfaces to improve their power
performance. The students on the research team plan to further develop this
idea into advanced research, contributing to the growth of the domestic
semiconductor industry.
