[Kwangwoon Hot Issue] A Student Who Attracted Attention for a Startup Idea 10 Years Ago is Now a Donor and Mentor

- Sungjeon Nam, CEO of Insighter Co., Ltd. (English Literature ‘08), donated 10 million won to the development fund.

On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., Sungjeon Nam, CEO of Insighter Co., Ltd. and a 2008 English Literature alumnus, visited the President’s office to donate 10 million won to the development fund.

The ceremony, held in the President's Office, was attended by Sungjeon Nam, CEO of Insighter Co., Ltd., along with Taehoon Kang, Vice President, and Hojoon Jang, Director; Jangho Chun, President of Kwangwoon University; Sangwon Min, Vice President for External Affairs; Sunwoong Kim, Professor of Department of English Language and Industry, College of Humanities and Social Sciences; and Jaehyun Han, Dean of the Office of External and International Affairs.

Sungjeon Nam, CEO of Insighter Co., Ltd., was featured in the 2014 JoongAng Ilbo special article titled 'Star Students Nested in Kwangwoon, Winging it to the World!'. The article at the time described the entire Kwangwoon University campus as an incubator, featuring mini-interviews with students pursuing their dreams through boundary-crossing interdisciplinary courses and cutting-edge educational environments. At the time, CEO Sungjeon Nam, who was a senior, was introduced as a student actively breaking the stereotype that liberal arts students struggle with entrepreneurship and even filed for a patent. He was recognized for achievements such as being selected for the 'Customized Business Support for Startups' and winning the Excellence Award at ‘Kwangwoon University 2014 Startup Incubation and Investment Competition.’

CEO Sungjeon Nam said, "It was very challenging to prepare for a startup back then due to the lack of information, but the university staff, including the Kwangwoon University Industry-Academic Collaboration Foundation, were incredibly supportive, which helped me prepare well." He added, "Ten years ago, I was a student, but now, as the CEO of a company, it feels deeply meaningful to be able to contribute to the development fund for my juniors."

President Jangho Chun expressed, "Much like the 'butterfly effect,' where a small flap of wings can trigger a powerful whirlwind of change, I am incredibly proud as president to witness Sungjeon Nam's passion, after years of perseverance, blossoming into the achievement of his grand dreams," adding, "The donated funds will be thoughtfully utilized to support the university's development." He continued, "Just as Sungjeon Nam achieved his current success by starting his business as a student 10 years ago, I look forward to seeing the accomplishments that will unfold over the next 10 to 20 years."
