Kwangwoon University Earns Top 'S Grade' in the Annual Support Program for University Development

Kwangwoon University (President Jangho
Chun), has received an S grade―the highest distinction―in the educational
innovation performance category of the Ministry of Education and National
Research Foundation of Korea's ‘2024 Annual Evaluation for the 2nd Year of the
Support Program for University Development.'
The Support Program for University
Development is a national financial support initiative led by the Ministry of
Education. It aims to strengthen universities' fundamental capacities, support
strategic specialization in response to future societal changes, and assist in
building a system for nurturing creative talents of the future who will drive
national innovative growth through universities’ autonomous innovation. A total of 117 universities are currently
participating in the program.
Kwangwoon University secured approximately
4.14 billion won in additional funding from this evaluation, bringing the total
funding for this year's Support Program for University Development to 7.79
billion won.
Kwangwoon University received high
praise for its achievements in educational innovation, particularly for: ▲ enhancing flexibility in academic
management by requiring students to complete multiple majors, creating
micro-majors, and encouraging student-designed interdisciplinary majors; ▲ enabling students to make practical
major choices through the establishment of the Type 1 Division of
Interdisciplinary Studies; ▲
creating a robust support system to ensure the successful integration of
students in the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies; and implementing a
comprehensive future design support system to guide all students throughout
their academic journey.
“This evaluation highlighted Kwangwoon University's commitment to developing a system that nurtures true talent in response to shifts in the educational landscape and future industrial changes, while also reinforcing the university's social responsibility,” said Kwangwoon University President Jangho Chun, adding, “Kwangwoon University will continue to pursue excellence in university education and cultivate creative, multidisciplinary talents essential for the future society through ongoing educational innovation." He continued, "The results of this evaluation are the result of the collective efforts of all employees, and we will continue to maintain transparent and reasonable business practices, ensuring that Kwangwoon employees can take pride in their work and collaborate harmoniously as a unified team."
