Kwangwoon University Technology Holding Company and The Invention Lab Launch 'Deep Tech Venture Fund No. 1'
- Fund No. 1 sized at 1.2 billion KRW, focusing on initiative investment in early-stage deep tech startups -
Kwangwoon University
Technology Holding Company (CEO Ho-sun Han) has jointly established the
'Kwangwoon University-The Invention Lab Deep Tech Venture Fund (hereinafter
referred to as the Deep Tech Fund)' with The Invention Lab (CEO Jin Young Kim),
a startup early investment institution and TIPS (Tech Incubator Program for
Startup) operator. TIPS is a program that selects startup teams with technology
items leading the global market through private initiatives and focuses on
nurturing promising future startups.
This venture fund
aims to discover and invest in early-stage deep tech teams in fields where
Kwangwoon University has competitive strengths, such as robotics, system
semiconductors, and artificial intelligence. The size of the first fund is 1.2
billion KRW and is characterized by preemptive investment in early-stage deep
tech startup teams, primarily composed of professors and master's and doctoral
personnel through the Kwangwoon University Technology Holding Company.
Ho-sun Han, CEO of
Kwangwoon University Technology Holding Company, stated, “Through the Deep Tech
Fund, we plan to discover excellent faculty startup teams and startup teams
composed of Kwangwoon University alumni with master's and doctoral degrees, thereby
revitalizing the startup ecosystem.” Jin Young Kim, CEO of The Invention Lab,
added, “We will play a role in proactively discovering and investing in
world-class professors and talents in the system semiconductor and robotics
fields that Kwangwoon University possesses.”
Furthermore,
companies invested through the Deep Tech Fund will be fully connected to TIPS
recommendations and will leverage the Seoul-type Private Investment Linkage
Support Project (Seoul-type TIPS), in which The Invention Lab and Kwangwoon
University Technology Holding Company participate as a consortium and have been
selected as operating institutions, to support technology development and
commercialization.
