‘Go for it’ team from Department of Convergence Sports Science

Won grand prize at 2023 Sports Big Data Bicycle Data Analysis Contest

A student team (Go for it: Ye-rim Kim, Yu-min Kim) from the Department of Convergence Sports Science at Kwangwoon University won the grand prize at the 2023 Bicycle Racing Data Analysis Contest hosted by the KSPO Bicycle Racing General Headquarters last October.

The Go for it team collected and analyzed data for two months, exploring analysis methods for utilizing bicycle racing data, designing investment strategies, and attracting customers in their 20s. The team won the grand prize among 13 teams with the result of ‘Predicting bicycle racing rankings using the predicted scores of a linear regression model.’

The winners, Ye-rim Kim and Yu-min Kim, said, “We were able to see the potential of sports research by approaching racing data scientifically and statistically. We hope that this type of research can be utilized in all sports, providing an opportunity for personal and industrial development." 

Meanwhile, the Racing Data Analysis Contest was held to enhance the brand image of racing as a scientific and rational brand by collecting racing information from university students nationwide and developing innovative analysis models to predict rankings.
