Kwangwoon University has been selected for the University ICT Research Center Development Support Project (Prof. Jin-Young Kim, Research Director), supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT (hereinafter referred to as the MSIT) and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Promotion (IITP).

The University ICT Research Center Development Support Project is a project to foster core researchers at the master's and doctoral levels who will drive national innovation and growth in the field of promising ICT technologies. With this selection, Kwangwoon University will receive 8.55 billion won in research and development funding for up to 8 years.

Professor Jin-Young Kim, the head of the project, stated, "In this project, we will collaborate with specialized professors and companies in various fields, including next-generation communications, task-oriented communication, UAV operations, and metaverse services to foster full-cycle talent in the field of hyperspace ask-oriented communication. We will secure foundational technologies and cultivate world-class talent in the field of task-oriented communication, which is in infancy in the next-generation communication industry. Korea will lead this field to secure national competitiveness and revitalize task-oriented communication projects, which is the next-generation communication industry."

In preparation for this project, Kwangwoon University has formed a consortium with joint research institutions such as Willis Standard Technology Research Institute, Samjeong Solution Co., Ltd., as well as 26 domestic companies including Samsung Electronics, 5 overseas universities including the University of Oulu, 2 associations including Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), and   research institutes including ETRI, KARI, KETI, ADD, and KIST, in addition to 4 other universities, including Sungkyunkwan University, bringing together professors, student researchers, and corporate researchers. They have established the Hyperspace Task-Oriented Communication Research Center (HTOC-ITRC) under the leadership of Professor Jin-Young Kim. This project aims to develop and innovate a satellite-UAV-ground terminal-based hyper-space task-oriented communication system based on TOSC (Task-Oriented Semantic Communication), aimed at 5H (Hyperspace, Hyper-effectiveness, Hyper-connectivity, Hyper-swarm intelligence, Hyper-fidelity), and foster top-tier talent.
