Kwangwoon University
(President Kim Jong-heon) held the 2022 spring semester graduation ceremony at
10:30 on February 27 (Mon). The event was held face-to-face for the first time
in four years as the COVID-19 quarantine was eased.
Following
the opening ceremony, the ceremony was held with a national ceremony, a
academic report, a congratulatory speech by Chairman Cho Jong-young, a speech
by President Kim Jong-heon, a congratulatory speech at the alumni association,
and a graduation speech by Jeon Si-chan (the Department of Culture and Industry
in Northeast Asia).
Chairman
Cho Sun-young said to the graduates, "I hope you will create a New Normal
that can be fair, provide more opportunities, and bring good benefits to
everyone in the future society," adding, "I support the way forward
with the beliefs and will that I believe is right."
President
Jongheon Kim encouraged students who are about to graduate, saying, "We
should not be anxious about it in a new and complex era and prepare for it with
an opportunity," adding, "Don't be afraid of challenges, have
positive thoughts that enjoy, and grow into a society that cares about others.”
In his
congratulatory address, Cho Kwang-sik, president of the Alumni Association,
left a message of support, saying, “As nationality can be changed but academic
records cannot be changed, I hope that juniors graduating as Kwangwoon students
will surpass their seniors and become capable talents.”
Meanwhile,
in the order of awards, Kim Young-min of the Electronic Information Technology
University (Electronic Material Engineering), who won the top prize, six top
students of each university, and 11 others, including Park Min-tae (Chemical
Department), who served as the emergency committee chairman of the 2022 student
council, were awarded the Merit Award.
In the
following graduation speech, Jeon Si-chan spoke on behalf of the students who
were awarded degrees, saying, "I thank my parents, professors, and
Kwangwoon faculty, and I will eventually do well even if there are big and
small difficulties in setting and achieving my next goal."
At the commencement ceremony in the first
semester, 1,452 undergraduate students, 93 undergraduate students through the
Academic Credit Bank System, 308 master's students, and 66 doctoral students
were awarded degree certificates. As a result, since its establishment,
Kwangwoon University has produced 61,742 undergraduates, 12,406 masters, 1,756
doctors, 2,768 CEO course graduates, and 9,942 special course graduates.
