The research team led by Professor Hwang
Dong-wook (Department of Media Communication) of Kwangwoon University won the
Best Paper Award at the ‘HCI Korea 2023 Academic Conference’ and ‘2022
Ergonomics Society of Korea 40th Anniversary Conference and International
Symposium’ respectively.
Among the research teams of the School of
Media Communication, students Jihoon Song and Jeongmin Ki won the Best Poster
Paper Award for Poster thesis at the 'HCI Korea 2023 Conference' held by the
Korean HCI Society on February 1st. The team presented a thesis on the subject
of 'Proposal of communication system for autonomous vehicle according to
communication intention'. This study aims to propose a display/projection type
communication system as a basic study for establishing a new communication
system considering the interaction between vehicles or between vehicles and
pedestrians on the road.
Professor Hwang Dong-wook, who directed the
thesis research, said, 'The results of this research are part of the project
results conducted in the 'Communication and Innovation' class at our school. This
is a meaningful achievement in which students came up with ideas and created
prototypes to solve the problem of interaction with autonomous vehicle
systems.”
This HCI KOREA 2023 academic conference
“RE-UNION: Reunion” is devoted to research on human-computer interaction such
as artificial intelligence, self-driving, Internet of Things, VR/AR, and
robotics technology, in the fields of technology, design, humanities and social
sciences. The results of experts were shared, and among large-scale research
results, including a total of 155 oral papers, 68 poster papers, 9 capstone
papers, and 54 Creative Award works, 10 excellent papers and 3 posters were

The
team presented a thesis titled 'Development of a notification system for
handling dangerous situations in autonomous driving based on a virtual
environment' and dealt with a method to effectively provide notification
information about dangerous situations around the vehicle while driving to the
driver inside the partially autonomous vehicle.
Meanwhile, this award is the research achievement of the Space a Focus Research Center (XR Focus Research Center), which was conducted as part of the 'Customized R&D Discovery and Promotion Project' of the 2021 University Innovation Project.
