- The seminar theme was "Seeking the future of Seoul Campus
Town 2.0." -
Kwangwoon University held the 5th Northeast Future Forum on
December 1, 2022 (Thursday) at 4 pm at 80th Anniversary Memorial Hall, #310.
The Northeast Future Forum was founded in November 2018 to develop the
Northeast region of Seoul. Autonomous districts, universities, academic
organizations, experts, and local lawmakers gather in the Northeast Future
Forum to present the plans and blueprints of the region.

The event, hosted by the Northeast Future Forum, Kwangwoon
University Campus Town Project, and the Korean Society for Facility Gyedo, held
live streaming through offline and Kwangwoon Campus Town Project YouTube
channel at the same time to induce various participation of online and offline.
Kim Jong-heon, president of Kwangwoon University, said in his
opening speech, "The Northeast Future Forum, which was launched in 2018 to
promote balanced development in northeastern Seoul and discover the agenda of
regional development in Nowon-gu, has already reached its fifth anniversary.
Based on the achievements and technology start-up capabilities of the campus
town business, Kwangwoon University has been selected as a second-stage
comprehensive campus town project with the vision of Creating a Northeast
Startup Valley through Industry, Science, Public and Government Cooperation
Campus Town 2.0. I hope this will be a creative opportunity for future
development in northeastern Seoul".
Cho Seon-young, chairman of Kwangwoon Academy, said in his
welcome speech, “We have faithfully carried out Kwangwoon’s founding philosophy
and put our best efforts into developing the local community. Centered on the
Northeast Future Forum, Kwangwoon University contemplates and communicates the
changes that can be brought to our local economy and working environment
through technological development and innovation. I hope we will keep doing
your best to contribute to the live quality of our residents.”
Won-gap Noh and Ko Yong-jin, members of the National Assembly,
said in their congratulatory remarks, “Seoul Campus Town is playing a central
role in the youth entrepreneurship ecosystem as a project to foster youth
entrepreneurship and revitalize the local economy. I hope that Kwangwoon
University, which plays an important role in the Seoul Campus Town project,
will develop into a runner in creating a startup valley in the Northeast region
through detailed discussions to resolve regional issues and become a cradle for
youth startups through today's discussion.”
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said in his congratulatory
speech, “Kwangwoon University has contributed to the foundation for youth
entrepreneurship and regional development through the Campus Town Project, such
as the establishment of the Vitamin Startup Support Center and the Gwangun-ro
Environmental Improvement Project. In the future, we will be able to lead the
local economy and develop together through the preparation of various programs
for young people and residents. I hope that today's seminar will be a
meaningful place to find a solution."
This was followed by a keynote lecture on 'Campus Town and Urban
Innovation' by President Kim Se-yong of the Korean Urban Design Association,
followed by a research professor Min Byeong-hak of Korea University Smart City
Department and 'Kwangwoon University Campus A presentation was given by Park
Tae-won, professor of Urban Planning and Real Estate at Kwangwoon University,
on the theme of 'Town 2.0 Startup Valley Creation Plan'.
The discussion was chaired by Park Tae-won, head of Kwangwoon University Campus Town Project, Nowon Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice Chairman Kim Shin-il, Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation Nowon Branch Manager Kim Jae-woong, Welcome Ventures Investment Headquarters Min Uk-jo, Nowon-gu Planning and Finance Director Park Young-rae, Kwangwoon University Industry-University Cooperation Director Park Cheol-hwan, Kwangwoon University Chemical Engineering Department Son Hee-sang. Professor Min-Tae Yoo, Korea Tourism Organization Tourism Enterprise Support Center expert, Rak-Hyun Jeong, Director of KBS Business Media Center, and Chang-Seon Hwang, CEO of XRTech Co., Ltd. participated in the discussion on the subject of 'Seeking the future direction of Campus Town 2.0 in Seoul'.
