Kwangwoon University's robot game team, Roːbit,
won the Army Chief of Staff Award at the "2022 Gyeryong World Military
Culture Expo". It was held at the "Defense Robot Contest" from
October 8 (Sat) to 9 (Sun), 2022.

The last time the contest was in 2019 at the 21st Korea
Intelligent Robot Contest, under the name "Defense Robot Division".
Finally, since last year it is being held again under the name "Defense
Robot Contest", hosted by the Republic of Korea Army Headquarters, Korea
Robot Convergence Research Institute, and Hanwha Defense. The existing
mission-type competition was transformed into a creative robot competition for
the first time this year. 46 people from the final 9 teams participated and
competed for various ideas and technologies though the document screening. The
Defense Robot Contest held this year selected the best prize winners who presented
their ideas for defense robots necessary for various military operations and
demonstrations in outdoor terrain similar to actual environments.
The winning work in this competition is the intelligent reconnaissance robot "KUBO". KUBO is an "intelligent robot for search and reconnaissance of stragglers and survivors in urban areas after battle". It has a caterpillar and flipper structure to stably pass through various terrain, and is equipped with SLAM and deep learning technology for autonomous mission execution. This robot is capable of performing various tasks such as opening/closing doors, identifying victims of requesters and supplying supplies, as well as search and reconnaissance as an aggregate of the technology possessed by RO:BIT.로빛(Roːbit)의 Ko-eun Lee Ko-eun, a student at the Department of Robotics at Kwangwoon University, who is in charge of the Intelligent Robot Team, said, “I am proud of our Robit team members. We achieved good results in the Defense Robot Contest. It was also a good opportunity to observe the technologies of various laboratories in Korea and to share our opinions. I’d like to mention that our team members worked tirelessly hard day and night even in difficult circumstances. I’d also like to thank Kwangwoon University and Professor Park Kwang-hyun who gave us full support so that Robit members had a great experience and achieved those amazing results.”
