Professor Sang-Mo Koo (Department of Electronic Materials Engineering)
Secures the Right to Host
2025 International Conference on
Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ICSCRM)

The International Conference on
Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ICSCRM) is the world's most prestigious
academic conference in the field of silicon carbide (silicon carbide, SiC).
KIEEME and Busan Metropolitan City announced that they succeeded in securing
the right to host the biggest event in 2025 in Korea, thanks to the achievement
of the KIEEME induction group in which Professor Sang-Mo Koo (Department of
Electronic Materials Engineering) participated.
Prof. Sang-Mo Koo made a
significant contribution to this achievement. He actively participated in the
promotion activities, took charge of the pre-community activities, and was the
keynote speaker for the invitation. Professor Sang-Mo Koo obtained his Ph.D. in
Electronic Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in 2003 with his
research on silicon carbide transistors. After taking office at Kwangwoon
University, he served as the head of the next-generation power semiconductor
advancement project Elements Division, and joint research manager for the
Korea-Europe energy semiconductor business, also as a member of the Korean
Society of Electrical and Electronic Materials and Electrical and Electronic
Engineers.
SiC is gaining attention as a
semiconductor that has the advantage of significantly increasing the mileage of
electric vehicles. While many researchers have sought to bring the ICSCRM to
Korea, it has been held alternately only in the US, Europe, and Japan for over
35 years. It is an important milestone for Korea that it has been eligible to
host ICSCRM for the first time in 2025.
ICSCRM 2025 will be attended by
more than 1,200 people from the industry, academia, and research institutes
from 20 countries. Events such as keynotes and invitational lectures, academic
presentations, and industry technology presentations and exhibitions will be
held, and Professor Sang-Mo Koo of Kwangwoon University will be the chairperson
of the organizing committee.
Professor Sang-Mo Koo said,
"Inviting the world-renowned ICSCRM Society will serve as a groundbreaking
opportunity for the development of next-generation power semiconductors in
Korea and industry-academia-research cooperation. Kwangwoon University's
research excellence in advanced power semiconductors and its potential to
foster human resources will be demonstrated internally and externally. It will
be an opportunity to further strengthen our competitiveness.”
