Prof. Jonghyuk Lee (Department of Media Communication), director of the Public Communication Research Institute, received Presidential Commendation in recognition of his contribution to safety policy and life safety at the 2020 Safety Culture Awards hosted by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.
Prof.
Lee established a public communication research institute for sustainable
communication in 2012 and has developed more than 100 public campaigns to date.
While launching a public campaign known as “Little Cry LOUD,” he has focused on
creating public value through communication strategies and campaigns for
various stakeholder groups such as government agencies, local governments,
corporations, and public interest groups.
Some
of the results of Professor Lee's public campaign design include ‘Look at both
sides’ at school zone crossings in Gyeonggi-do, Seoul, guide pictograms to
prevent ‘smombie’ (smartphone zombie), and reflective pedestrian signs
for drivers.
In
particular, he played an important role in encouraging the participation of
related organizations and individuals by developing safety brackets, a symbol
of the public safety campaign being developed by the Ministry of Public
Administration and Security. This year, he has continued to communicate with
the nation for public safety by developing disaster safety industry brands and
plans to carry out various campaigns including pedestrian safety in 2021 in
cooperation with major local governments, domestic and foreign companies,
including Busan.
Prof.
Lee said, "We have been creating and implementing a new public campaign
model led by the people for a long time, and the recognition of our
achievements in the safety field through this award will be a great help to our
future research activities."
